Like all finite resources, harvest of squid is cyclical, which means that production of particular species of squid may vary from year to year; each year a different species may be more prevalent than others.

Prominent features: The fine textured, clean white loligo species of squid is caught all over the world. Most Loligo squid sold in the U.S. comes from California, sometimes from Peru and other Pacific Ocean countries.
Popular uses: Squid is one of the most versatile baits available to fishermen. It’s great bottom bait for grouper and snapper. May be used whole or as a cut bait. Bait with squid from a pier, boat or even from shore, you will most likely catch anything that will bite a hook. The larger squids are deep dropped for swordfish, or rigged and trolled for large gamefish.
