Silver Mullet Mugil curema
AKA: fantail mullet, white mullet, red-eye mullet
Prominent features: Owing to their small size, less than 12 inches, Silver mullet are primarily used for bait. Adult Silver mullet consume the mud found on the bottom of estuarine waters, digesting the algae, plankton, and plant and animal detritus therein. These mullet are unique in having a muscular gizzard. They are an important part of the ecology in estuarial and coastal waters of the Gulf and Atlantic coasts of America.
Uses: Utilized as a whole, cut, trolling, chunk or strip bait, silver mullet are
great for kings, amberjack, billfish, snapper and many other gamefish
because of its oily, tough skin!
